SPEAK UP COUNSELLING

WITH JEROME CARR

Big Things. Little Things. That Stuff. Other Stuff.
Speak Up. Let's Talk.

Meet Jerome

I am Jerome Carr, a BACP registered Counsellor.Since starting counselling in 2012 my skills have evolved while working with young people and children with SEN needs. These skills aided my studies, which helped me gain my Diploma in 2017. Since then, I volunteered to gain experience and have continuously improved my skills through CPD to give a better experience to current and prospective clients.

I like to give the client the option to be heard. As such, I provide a singular approach, but I am also capable of multiple approaches designed client’s needs. Although I trained clinically in Person Centred Approach and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), I also have experience with the psychodynamic approach as my base. In my experience I have worked with many clients comprising of youth through to 25+ who are from different walks of life, I have guided them through trauma, anxiety, extreme stress, and bereavement etc.I am available to support clients with short-term or long-standing needs. I believe in the therapy and recovery process and how human beings can have time out to reset or evaluate things in their life. In my counselling practice there is allowance to have a space to talk without any judgement which is how I help, alongside my continued training and increasing experience and willingness to meet my client where they are, even if it means learning new things. For example researching interests suggested so I can become more aware if I am not familiar with.I have slowly introduced creative elements in my work which have proven to be just as effective as talking for some clients. These include, Sand tray, art, play therapy, music, toys, and crafting. This can sometimes unlock the mind for memories deeply buried within and offer the chance of a different curiosity because of using elements that are not always natural to us.

Qualifications & Experience

I always place the client's needs at the centre of the work. As an integrative counsellor, I draw on different skills and approaches which best suit each of my clients.I offer short-term work (6-8 weeks), including Cognitive THERAPY, If you are struggling with something happening in your life right now which is stopping you from functioning day-to-day. If you need to explore events and experiences from the past in much more depth, our work together would be longer-term.Our initial meeting will be to establish if we can work together and if this is your first time having counselling to explain how it works, how it can help you and what you want to get out of it. This is also a chance to ask questions, but these are always welcomed and help you understand what we can achieve and the service you can expect.

My Services

Adult Counselling
I work with adults who may be experiencing grief and loss, trauma, stress, anger and anxiety.
I will provide a safe and confidential space for you, to help you make sense of what’s going on for you and be heard.Together we can detangle experiences from the past and recall events which may have impacted you negatively and perhaps use different perspectives and resources you have and ones you may not have been aware of to enable you to move forward.

Youth Counselling
In adolescence, life can present challenges in the guise of; family and social life, self-esteem, body image, gender and feeling overwhelmed.
Speaking to someone who isn’t a friend or family member who is trained to work with emotions can help you see things differently without judgement or bias.I work with you to help find or strengthen your resilience and confidence in this tough period.

SEN Counselling
My background working in social care and SEN schools has given me unique skills to work with this group. Often behaviour is seen as challenging when it is disagreeable with the norms of society. But very few people see that their behaviour can be the way that person communicates.
As a former MAPA instructor, I also am aware some parent/caregivers and persons living with children and/or adults with SEN needs may not be aware of triggers or strategies to support them. I can and have worked with many young people to identify or work with diagnosis and support the families to try to navigate themselves through ‘challenging behaviours.’ Just to add these behaviours have been developed overtime so can take a while for adjustments to take effect if they indeed work.
